The DAAD scholarships are available to international students who are aiming for a master’s or doctoral degree at top German universities for the 2023/24 academic session. DAAD scholarships include monthly payments of 861 euros for graduates and 1,200 euros for doctoral candidates.

Scholarship funding is offered to foreign graduates from developing and emerging countries of all disciplines or disciplines. The opportunity to complete a postgraduate or master’s degree at a state or state-recognized German university and, in exceptional cases, a doctorate and a university degree (Master/PhD) in Germany.

Selection criterion:

To be selected in this program, applicants must have the following

  • Required languages: E English or German.
    • For international programs, the language of instruction is English. As a rule, you must present an English language certificate, eg TOEFL or IELTS.
    • For other courses, the language of instruction is German. As a rule, you must present a German language certificate, eg DSH or TestDaF.
  • Candidates have a bachelor’s degree (usually a four-year degree) or a master’s degree in an appropriate field.
  • Candidates have at least two years of professional experience.
  • The candidates can prove their development-related motivation and expect that after the training/the scholarship they will assume social responsibility in their personal and professional environment and initiate and accompany change processes.

How to apply:

  • Signed DAAD application form with current date
  • Personally signed curriculum vitae (please use the sample europass form below http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/) with current date
  • Personally signed Motivation letter (with reference to current activity and choice of postgraduate course/programs, maximum two pages) with the current date.
    IMPORTANT: If you are applying for more than one postgraduate course (maximum 3 courses), you must submit a letter of motivation explaining why you are applying for these specific courses and why you have chosen this priority.
  • letter of recommendation from your current employer; the letter must be on letterhead, signed, officially stamped and dated (not in a sealed envelope)
  • Employment certificate(s) from the employer(s) demonstrating at least two years of relevant professional experience (after the Bachelor’s degree) at the time of application and, if possible, a guarantee of re-employment with your current employer upon return home.
  • Proof of language skills:
    • English – IELTS or TOEFL (Note: Institutional TOEFL is not accepted)
    • German – prerequisite for German-language courses
  • Copies of the academic degrees (if necessary certified translation)
  • Copies of the academic certificates, including grade scale (if necessary, certified translation)
  • Applicants from the People’s Republic of China are asked to submit an APS certificate with their application documents.
