About Canadian Government Scholarships
The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship Award program aims to attract and retain world-class graduate students by supporting students who demonstrate both leadership qualities and a high standard of academic achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences, humanities, science and/or engineering prove and health.
Named for Major General Georges P. Vanier, the first French-speaking Governor General of Canada, the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) program helps Canadian institutions attract highly qualified and open graduate students.
Selection criterion:
To apply for this scholarship, applicants must be nominated by the institution they wish to study at and meet the following criteria
Academic excellence
research potential
Leadership (Potential and Proven Ability)
Scholarship Duration and Perks
- The scholarship is valued at $50,000 per year for 3 years (non-renewable).
- The grants are divided equally among the three federal awarding bodies:
- Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR)
- Scientific and Technical Research Council (NSERC)
- Research Council for Social Sciences and Humanities (SSHRC)
Entry process:
candidates got to be nominated by the institution where they wish to study. Candidates cannot apply directly to the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program .
Step 1: Start your application by researching Canadian institutions Canadian Universities website. We encourage you to browse the respective university websites and do a thorough research on the interest program you wish to pursue a PhD in and supervisors for your proposed research.
Step 2: Consult the Vanier CGS quota page to ensure your institution of interest has a quota for the year you are applying.
Required Documents
To apply, all interested candidates must be willing to submit the following documents;
- A ResearchNet application form (contains two letters of recommendation, each with three sections)
- A CCV (limited entries; see Completing the Common Curriculum Vitae (CCV) for full information)
- research contributions (maximum one page)
- A personal guide (maximum 2 pages for English applications; maximum 2.5 pages for French applications)
- Special Circumstances (maximum 0.5 page, optional)
- Two certificates of good conduct (maximum 2 pages)
- A research proposal (maximum 2 pages for English applications; maximum 2.5 pages for French applications)
- project references (maximum 5 pages)
- Official Transcripts
