The European Union funds the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master International Educational Scholarships and is pleased to offer Academic Scholarships in Astrophysics and Space Science to all international students wishing to embark on studies.

The Master’s program is open to students of all nationalities and is offered jointly by a consortium of 4 universities:

  • the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” (Italy),
  • the University of Belgrade (Serbia),
  • the University of Bremen (Germany),
  • the Université Côte d’Azur (France)

The scholarship is awarded in Astrophysics and Space Science.

Eligibility Criteria for Erasmus Mundus Joint Master International Educational Grant:

  • Top grades of all nationalities with proven proficiency in English who have a recognized bachelor’s degree in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, mathematics, computer science, aerospace engineering or a closely related field.
  • Or another recognized qualification from accredited higher education institutions, attesting to an equivalent level of learning in the same fields, quantified as three years of university study of at least 180 credits in the European Credit Transfer System, and giving access to second cycle programs at Master’s level of higher education system in which the degree was obtained.
  • Or expected to earn a bachelor’s degree in the above fields by the end of May of the start year of the master’s program.
  • Possession of an academic record of achievement that proves the fulfillment of the following minimum requirements for the acquired knowledge in mathematics and physics:
  • Mathematical knowledge: linear algebra, mathematical analysis in one or more variables, linear operators
  • Knowledge of physics: Basic knowledge of classical and modern physics, mechanics, thermodynamics and electromagnetism; elements of quantum mechanics, special relativity and nuclear physics; Basic knowledge of geometric and wave optics.
  • skills in the laboratory. Activities, experimental physical data analysis and programming.

Required documents for the application

  • The completed and signed application form;
  • A copy of the bachelor’s certificate or an official certificate of the probable date of the same, if not already available;
  • the academic performance records including an explanation of the grading scale;
  • a description of relevant study modules attended, indicating for each module the title, the syllabus, the grade obtained and the number of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) points or number of hours;
  • A recent CV (curriculum vitae, résumé) that includes a list of publications (if any), the title and abstract of the bachelor’s thesis (if any), a description of extracurricular activities related to astrophysics and space science (if any) and skills acquired (e.g B. Computer/programming skills).
  • A cover letter/letter of motivation (max. 1000 words) demonstrating the match between the program objectives and the applicant’s motivation, academic/professional background and professional project(s).
  • A scan of the passport (an ID card scan is conditionally accepted if the applicant does not have a passport at the time of application);
  • One of the proofs of English proficiency (if applicable) is listed in the language requirements.
  • Two letters of recommendation. Applicants should provide the email addresses of two university professors willing to submit letters of recommendation in support of their application.

entry requirements

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, mathematics, computer science, space engineering or related fields.

English language criteria

  • Applicants must provide one of the following evidence of English proficiency:
  • Cambridge B2 First (formerly known as Cambridge English: First, FCE) or higher Cambridge certificates
  • “International English Language Testing System” (IELTS) Academic test, at least “Volume 6” and not older than two years
  • Internet-based (iBT) TOEFL with a minimum score of 72 points and not older than two years
  • TOEFL Essentials with a minimum total score of 8 and no older than two years
  • UNIcert level “II”
  • B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)
  • Native English speakers are exempt from providing such proof.
