They discover in time a rare cancer in a 12-year-old girl thanks to the Apple Watch

The mother of the minor has acknowledged that if it were not for the insistence of the smartphone’s heart rate detector alerts, she would not have gone to the doctor so quickly

Apple devices can save lives. For years, the company founded by Steve Jobs has been devoting a lot of effort to developing services and functions for its devices  that prevent health problems for its customers. The last known case of a person who has benefited from this work is that of Imani Miles, a 12-year-old girl who has discovered that she has rare cancer thanks to her Apple Watch.

Jessica Kitchen, the little girl’s mother, decided to take her to the hospital when she noticed that the device constantly alerted about her daughter’s high heart rates. There she was operated on for appendicitis and during the operation they found that she had a neuroendocrine tumor in the appendix that is very rare in children.

As Kitchen has acknowledged to Hour Detroit , her daughter’s guardian angel was the Apple Watch. If it wasn’t for her constant warnings, I wouldn’t have taken her to the doctor. “If she hadn’t been activated, she probably would have waited and carried it for the next two days,” she has confessed. This could have been fatal.

The Apple Watch does not have a function directly designed to detect pathologies such as cancer. However, it does include a number of health-monitoring and life-saving features.

Thus, when someone wears an Apple Watch, they have at their disposal functions such as fall detection, the ECG app that allows you to take an electrocardiogram, blood oxygen monitoring or irregular heart rhythm notifications.

Since the Apple Watch Series 4, Apple watches have been improving every year by including various sensors that play a key role in detecting and alerting the user to problems, prompting rapid action by emergency services if needed. This is key to being able to save a life. Or, at least, have better control.

In this sense, the Apple Watch Series 8 is the first Apple smartwatch that includes temperature sensors: one for the user and another for the ambient temperature. It also includes serious car accident detection as well as a menstrual cycle tracking feature.

Stories like those of Imani Miles have been used by Apple itself to promote the benefits of its watch. In this sense, the company directed by Tim Cook has recently published a video in which several people tell how the Apple Watch has saved their lives.
