Great offer! The University of British Columbia is pleased to offer the 2023 Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship Award in Canada to all exceptional candidates.
The Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award honors international undergraduate students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership qualities, involvement in student activities and community service, and recognized excellence in other critical areas.
The value of this Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award depends heavily on your financial needs. To calculate how much money you and your family can contribute each year, add up your tuition, fees, and living expenses. A typical needs assessment is based on the financial information that you and your family have submitted.
Your scholarship may be extended for up to three additional years of undergraduate studies or until you graduate, whichever comes first, provided you retain your Canadian Study Permit, demonstrate continued financial need, and maintain good academic standing with your faculty (student visa). .
Selection criteria and entry requirements:
Eligible for the Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Study Award:
- You must be an international student going to study in Canada with a Canadian Study Permit.
- You must enter UBC from an accredited secondary school or transfer from your first year at a post-secondary college or other university.
- You must have graduated from high school no earlier than June two years prior to the academic year you are applying for. For example, applicants for 2022 must have their high school diploma no earlier than June 2020.
- You must apply for your first undergraduate course.
- You must demonstrate academic excellence (achieve all As or equivalent standard).
- You must demonstrate a financial need that would otherwise prevent you from pursuing a UBC degree.
- You must meet UBCs Admission Requirementsincluding general and degree-specific requirements and the English Language Admissions Standard.

Applications for the school year 2022 are now possible. Applications for 2023 will be opened shortly.
To apply for the International Scholars program, you must be nominated by your school or non-profit organization and submit a reference from an academic referee . Confirm that your school or non-profit organization can nominate you and inform your nominator and academic evaluator that you wish to apply to the International Scholars Program.
Submit your award application and complete the online application for admission to UBC 15th of November. You must meet the UBC English Language Admissions Requirement by 31 January.

You must demonstrate a financial need that would otherwise prevent you from pursuing a UBC degree. (UBC automatically considers all international students for the merit-based International Major Entrance Scholarships and Awards for Outstanding International Students Grants totaling $25,000 per year. If this amount does not cover your needs for tuition and basic living expenses, you can apply for the International Scholars Program.)
