How to apply

To apply for the 2023 Fulbright Scholarship, please follow the steps listed below in order:

1. Submit an application online

Individuals must gather a number of resources to submit with their Fulbright application to the USEFP to assess their eligibility. All required documents must be attached to the application

2. Gather college transcripts and certificates

All certificates and references from a 4-year or comparable undergraduate course; Comparable degrees include ACCA or foreign 3-year bachelor’s degrees. Transcripts and an MPhil or MS degree are required for PhD students. If you are in the last year of your undergraduate studies and would like to graduate by December of this year, you can also apply. The USEFP considers all aspects of your transcripts, not just your grade point average.

They evaluate your educational background, the courses you have attended and your performance in the individual subjects. They also take into account the fact that different colleges use different grading systems. Although applicants do not require a GPA, the majority of Fulbright recipients have excellent academic records. Bachelor thesis is only one aspect.

3. Complete the general TOFEL and GRE test.

You can include either your provisional GRE score from exam day or, if you have already received your official score, this score in your application. Each competitor must use code 9388 to request ETS to send an official score report directly to USEFP. The results of the general (international) GRE exam are required at the time of application. A good GRE score is 315 or higher for engineering and science and 310 or higher for all other areas. No GRE subject test is required.

A score of 138 is required for all verbal and quantitative portions of the GRE to be considered for the Fulbright. However, most approved candidates have GRE scores that are in the upper percentiles. If you take the GRE more than once, you can only disclose your best score, as Fulbright only considers that. The TOEFL is NOT required at the time of application. If you are called for an interview, you must take the TOEFL exam. IELTS is not recognized.

4. Complete two essays

For the Fulbright application, you must submit two essays. Each essay must be a maximum of 800 words and should be completed in the space allocated on the application form. Write simply and clearly in your essay so that the Fulbright panel, unfamiliar with your environment, can better understand you. You need to develop a marketing plan for yourself before you start writing the essays. Successful candidates typically take 4-6 weeks to write and revise their essays.

5. At least three letters of recommendation.

You must include three recommendations with your application by the application deadline. Three academic references are acceptable, as are two academic and one professional, or two professional and two academic references. In other words, you need an academic reference letter. Your reviewers must complete, sign, postage and tape seal the reference forms included in the application pack. An online form will be emailed to your references once you have submitted your application online.

6. Organize your academic resume

The space provided on the application form should be completed with a current and up-to-date CV.

7. Submit the online form

Application fees for the Fulbright program are not required. Online applications are required.

8. Interview

You may receive an invitation to a panel interview once your written application has been submitted and approved. Interviews will be assessed by mid-September and interviews will take place in October. If USEFP does not contact you by October, it will be assumed that you have not been selected. While the interview is not a guarantee of admission, it is a good indicator of selection. An interview panel of four people conducts 15 to 30 minute interviews. You are not required to have taken the TOEFL exam by the time of the interview, but you must have your TOEFL entry slip with you on the day of the interview.
