Duration of study: 5 years study
The five-year doctoral program enables students to contribute to these debates. The first two years typically consist of classes where students focus on analytical skills. Students also take courses in their chosen area of academic specialization in accounting, finance or management, which provides the basis for developing research topics.
The program encourages students to broaden their horizons and further their education in related fields such as data sciences, operations research or economics.
Study privileges at the Frankfurt School:
The Frankfurt School awards a Dr. re. pol., the German equivalent of the PhD in Economics. The school offers fully funded tuition scholarships and a generous monthly stipend for up to five years.
The funding includes a tuition fee waiver and a subsidy towards living expenses. The monthly grant is 1,750 euros.
In addition, the Frankfurt School covers costs related to research, including conferences and stays abroad.
Required Documents
Applicants must enclose the following documents with their application.
- Curriculum vitae and list of publications (if available)
- Certified copy of your university entrance qualification (Abitur, Abitur or equivalent)
- Certified copy of your university degree certificate or equivalent and academic transcript of records
- Official GMAT or GRE scores
- Proof of English Language Proficiency Test (TOEFL IBT min. score 100/IELTS min. score 7.0)
- Letter of motivation (max. 2 pages): Why are you interested in the chosen field of study? What are the potential research areas you could pursue? Have you completed research projects with faculty? Is the research of a member of the FS faculty of interest to you?
- Optional explanation: If you would like the committee to consider any of the following factors, you can describe their relevance in a separate explanation within the application. This can add to the diversity of the entering class: background, extracurricular activities, work experience.
- Two letters of recommendation: To request the letters of recommendation, you need to register on a separate platform and send your request from there. Once you have sent your request to your potential referrer, they will receive an email along with a link to allow them to upload their recommendation letter confidentially. Please provide a deadline for your recommendation letter to ensure we receive it on time. Once the referrer has uploaded the letter, we will be notified and have access to it.
Admission criteria:
Outstanding graduates of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration, finance, management, accounting or related disciplines who are aiming for an academic career.
Candidates in the last year of a master’s or bachelor’s degree are welcome to apply with their most recent certificate. Please note that the degree must be completed by the time the doctorate begins. The expected grade of the applicants must not be below the average grade “B” or 75% of the achievable credits. Foreign qualifications are checked for equivalence.
