2023-24 Gates Cambridge Scholarship Grants in the UK

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2023-2024 is a fully funded scholarship for international students. This scholarship is offered for masters and doctoral degree programs. This grant provides a stipend of £17,848 per year, medical insurance, academic development funding of up to £2,000 and family allowance of up to £10,120.

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship Program was established in October 2000 with a US$210 million donation to the University of Cambridge from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the largest single donation ever made to a UK university.

By 2022, Gates Cambridge will award 80 full scholarships to outstanding individuals outside the UK to study a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject offered by the University of Cambridge. About two-thirds of these awards are available to graduate students, with 25 in the US round and 55 in the international round.

Who can apply for the Gates Cambridge International Scholarship?

You can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship if you:

  • a citizen of a country outside the United Kingdom
  • Applying for one of the following full-time residential courses at the University of Cambridge:
    • promotion
    • MPhil/MLitt
    • One-year postgraduate course

Application benefits:

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship offers the recipient the following benefits:

  • That University composition fee at a reasonable rate
  • a single student living allowance (£17,848 for 12 months at the 2021-22 rate; pro rata for courses shorter than 12 months) – for PhD students the award is valid for up to 4 years
  • A single economy flight at the beginning and end of the course
  • Cost of an entry visa and the cost of Immigrant Health Supplement
  • Academic Development Funding – from up to £500 up to £2,000 depending on the length of your course to attend conferences and courses.
  • Family Allowance – up to £10,120 for one child and up to £14,440 for two or more children (2021-22 rate). No funding is provided for a partner.
  • Fieldwork – You may apply to maintain your normal subsistence allowance while doing fieldwork as part of your PhD (the Trust will not fund other fieldwork costs as these should be funded by the University’s composition fee).
  • Maternity/paternity allowance – if necessary, you can apply to interrupt your studies for up to 6 months and continue to receive your maintenance allowance during this time
  • Hardship financing – for unforeseen difficulties

Please follow the application guidelines below to apply for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship:

  1. Apply for admission to a course and a college place and the Gates Cambridge portion of the Funding Section.
  2. Create an account .
  3. Enter your personal information
  4. Submit these documents:
    • Gates Cambridge Statement: Please explain in maximum 3000 characters (approx. 500 words) why you are applying for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship and how you meet the four main criteria.
    • CV/resume
    • Research proposal (only for doctoral applicants)
    • Gates Reference: In addition to two academic references for admission, Gates Cambridge applicants submit a reference of their eligibility for the scholarship.
  5. Answer the application questions.
  6. Submit the application.

  • Any bachelor’s degree, e.g. B. BA (Bachelor) or BA-affiliated (a second BA)

  • MD Doctor of Medicine (6 years, part-time)
